A WORKED TASK
Turn Python docstrings into a small HTML reference
The example documents a module, a calculate_average function and a Student class. Generate the documentation and compare the outline with those three source elements. Improve a docstring in the source and regenerate to see how explanations become part of the reference.
The generator parses Python source instead of importing and running your module. It is not a full Sphinx build, type checker or proof that the documented behavior matches the implementation.
What to check
- A docstring is the first string statement in a module, class or function, usually written with triple quotes.
- Comments beginning with # are not automatically a substitute for docstrings.
- Review generated HTML as documentation before publishing it; missing explanations cannot be inferred from a function name.

- Processing
- Code and supported files are processed in this browser tab. Runtime tools download Python WebAssembly, but do not intentionally upload your source.
- Important limitation
- The browser runtime is intentionally isolated and may not include every desktop package, system command or network feature. Verify production programs in their target Python environment.

Documented Python source

def calculate_average(scores):
"""Return the arithmetic mean of a score list."""
return sum(scores) / len(scores)
class Student:
"""A learner enrolled in a course."""

COMMON QUESTIONS
Documentation Generator FAQ
Does this upload my code or files?
No. Processing happens locally in your browser. Runtime tools download Python itself, but your source is not sent to our server.
Why can the first Python run take longer?
The browser downloads and starts the Python WebAssembly runtime. Later runs in the same tab are normally much faster.
Can I stop a program that takes too long?
Yes. Runtime tools show a Stop button while Python is working. Stopping terminates the isolated worker and a clean runtime starts when needed.
